Erika lives with her grandmother under guardianship. In order to provide for her granddaughter, the grandmother is forced to work around the clock—her shifts last for entire days. The girl needs an adult who will be there for her; without a nanny, she will be deprived not only of supervision, but also of the warmth and development every child needs. Our nanny has been caring for Erika for almost a year now while her grandmother is at work: she used to take her to kindergarten and pick her up, and now she takes her to first grade and brings her home after school, goes for walks with her, helps with homework, and does drawing, modeling, and reading with her—all the things that help a child grow and feel happy.
