Anya is 17 years old; she was born with a spinal malformation, which is why she cannot walk on her own. Her parents abandoned her in the maternity hospital as soon as they learned of her diagnosis.
Anya studies with a teacher who comes to her institution, and she is preparing for adult life, since after reaching adulthood she will leave the orphanage.
"Anya is very diligent," says a caregiver at the orphanage. "She loves to learn, to discover something new—she herself asked to be taught how to cook. And she always smiles, even when something doesn't work out. She is an incredibly bright girl."
This year, Anya is coming to Moskva for the second time for examinations related to her condition. We provided her with a nanny who was with her the entire time.
For a child in the hospital, a nanny is not a luxury but a necessity: accompanying them to procedures, providing care, and simply being a reliable adult nearby—someone who can comfort and support them, someone whose presence makes things less frightening. Children come to Moskva for treatment from all over Rossiya, and orphanage staff cannot always be there with them. That is when we and our professional nannies step in to help.
Help us pay for the work of the nannies—give orphaned children care and support at the most difficult moment.
