Polina was 4 months old when she had her first epileptic seizure. An examination was conducted: EEG monitoring showed epileptic activity, MRI revealed multiple tubers and an astrocytoma in the brain, a rhabdomyoma in the heart, angiomyolipomas and cysts in the kidneys. Genetic analysis confirmed the diagnosis — tuberous sclerosis.
After selecting a therapy and bringing the daily seizures under control, Polina continued to develop: she started crawling and walking according to her age. A year later, remission ended — the seizures returned, and to this day it has not been possible to find an effective therapy.
Polina is now 6 years old. She enjoys going to kindergarten, although it is not easy for her to communicate with other children due to a speech delay. But Polina tries hard, and this brings results — her speech is becoming richer, and she has started to form sentences and engage in dialogue.
The girl loves music, going for walks, visiting the cinema and theaters, and, like a true girl, dressing up beautifully.
Now, it is vital for Polina to undergo her annual brain MRI to monitor changes and make sure that nothing threatens her life.
