The boy was born prematurely, at 32 weeks. Due to a difficult delivery, acute hypoxia, cerebral hemorrhage, and meningitis, the child spent his first 20 days in intensive care and another two months in the hospital, and at one year old, he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (spastic diplegia).
Over years of persistent struggle, accompanying diagnoses and four orthopedic surgeries on his legs have been left behind. The most recent surgery on his right leg took place in April 2024 in Saint Petersburg: it saved his pelvis and spine from curvature, and thanks to rehabilitation and proper orthotics, his foot sizes evened out.
Currently, Maksim attends a mainstream school, plays sledge hockey, and practices adaptive skiing. He walks with support and is already taking his first independent steps—doctors confirm he has every chance to walk on his own.
To secure the results of the surgery and continue moving forward, the boy needs a new course of recovery treatment. Please support Maksim!
