Little Safia is only 5 months old and is a fun and active little girl. Safia likes to look at brightly colored toys and pictures in books. In the hospital, the girl often looks out the window, she likes to watch the sun, trees and brightly colored cars.
When Safiya was a few months old, her mother noticed that her daughter's one eye began to squint and there was a spot in the pupil. After examination in the hospital, doctors diagnosed her with binocular retinoblastoma. The baby had to have one eye removed to prevent the tumor from spreading.
Safia has finished her surgery and chemotherapy, and her treatment continues. She now needs to undergo further genetic testing for "Immune Disorder" so that doctors can understand the nature of the disease and risk factors. This will allow them to select the appropriate treatment and give the little girl a chance to save the sight in her remaining eye.
