CF named after Alyona Petrova

Charitable foundation • Tomsk region

For Masha and 9 other children who are undergoing treatment for cancer at the Tomsk Hospital, the biomaterials were sent to Moscow and a "second look" procedure was performed in the laboratories of federal centers. This means that the hospital's laboratory, after making a preliminary diagnosis, sends the biopsy material to a reference laboratory for a second examination. Diagnosing malignant tumors in children is a challenging task. Histological examinations are conducted to determine the specific type of tumor present in the child's body.

Report

Campaign information

Maria and 9 other children have cancer. To make an accurate diagnosis and choose treatment tactics, they need to send tests to Moscow!

Masha is one of 10 children who are undergoing cancer treatment at the Tomsk Hospital and need to send biomaterials to Moscow.

Diagnosing malignant tumors in children is a very difficult task. In order to understand which tumor has settled in the child's body, histological examinations are performed. The trouble is that many childhood malignant tumors are morphologically very similar to each other, and a mistake in diagnosis leads to fatal consequences – doctors begin to treat the child incorrectly.

To avoid such mistakes, the practice of "second look" is adopted all over the world. That is, the laboratory of the hospital where the child was operated on, after making a preliminary diagnosis, sends the biopsy material to the reference laboratory for a control study.
