At the homeless animal shelter, haircuts are not just a matter of grooming, but a necessity to save tails' lives. When cats and dogs come in with wounds, one of the first and most important things we do is to free the damaged area of dirty hair for further wound care.
The hair around a wound is always dirt, bacteria and infection. If it is not removed, any treatment may be useless - the wound will not heal and inflammation will only increase. Dirty and tangled hair interferes with treatment, because in order to wash a wound, apply a dressing or perform surgery, the skin surface must first be thoroughly cleaned.
In the hands of specialists, a shearing machine is not just a tool, but an opportunity to give your pet a chance for a quick and successful recovery. But the shelter's machines are already worn out, the blades are dull, and without new equipment it becomes more and more difficult to work. Therefore, we are opening a fundraiser to purchase professional clippers and replacement blades for them. This will help to prepare animals for treatment, reduce the risk of wound infection and speed up the healing process.
