Nine-year-old Danya cannot move his arms and legs, he breathes with the help of a tracheostomy and a ventilator.
Danya was born healthy, but when he was one and a half years old, his head tilted. After examination, the doctors determined a slight torticollis and prescribed a course of massage. But the treatment did not help. The boy turned from an active boy into a weak and lethargic one, his head hung on his chest, and a small bump appeared on the back of his neck.
The boy was given additional examinations and the result was a shock even for the doctors: a malignant tumour of the cervical-thoracic spinal cord. Danya was urgently admitted to the Kemerovo hospital, but the tumour had already squeezed his neck so much that the boy suffered respiratory and cardiac arrest.
Danya was miraculously saved by putting him on a ventilator. After the operation he lost the ability to move and breathe on his own. In total, the boy spent about two years in hospitals, underwent several courses of chemotherapy. Fortunately, the treatment helped and the tumour growth was stopped.
Thanks to rehabilitation courses, he learnt to eat on his own, not through a gastrostomy. Classes with a speech therapist helped to strengthen his respiratory system, and the boy needs a ventilator only at night.
Danya has a new course of rehabilitation ahead of him. But his mum is unable to pay for the lessons, as she is raising two children alone.
Danya needs your support very much!
