Last year Ramazan had to undergo another operation - cochlear implantation: now everything that his ears were supposed to pick up is picked up and transmitted directly to the brain by implanted processors. But everything that they transmit - sounds, voices, music - all of it is just noise to Ramazan. If he can distinguish the sound of a car horn from his mother's words, he is not yet able to understand what his mother said. Speech does not develop spontaneously in children after cochlear implantation. In order for a child to speak, his nervous system must be taught to perceive what he hears and reproduce it.
