Vasilisa was born prematurely, at 26 weeks, with a critically low birth weight of only 730 grams. Immediately after birth, she was placed in the intensive care unit and connected to a ventilator. In the intensive care unit the girl suffered hypoxia, which led to the formation of cysts in the brain and subsequently to the diagnosis of cerebral palsy.
Vasilisa and her mother spent a long time in the hospital, where the girl gained weight and her mother learned the skills of caring for a special child. As Vasilisa grew older, her developmental lag became more and more evident: she did not master the skills of holding her head and turning over in time. Neurologists expressed fears of possible disability.
Last May, Vasilisa was officially diagnosed with cerebral palsy, spastic tetraparesis, and given a disability. The family accepted the challenge and focused on rehabilitation to improve Vasilisa's quality of life. Now her mother tries to take Vasilisa to Moscow and other cities for rehabilitation every three months. Vasilisa has started to crawl and hold her head more confidently. For further progress she needs a specialized stroller, which will ensure the correct position of her body, help her learn new skills and prevent the development of secondary complications.
