Nadezhda is a third-generation medical worker. Therefore, she had no doubts about her choice of profession: after school she entered medical school and started working as a nurse. She married and had children. But one of her four sons got cancer. Together with his mother he underwent two years of heavy treatment. Together they came to the long-awaited remission. After that Nadezhda decided to help cancer patients.
Now Nadezhda dreams of developing in her profession and to attend a specialised programme for oncohematology nurses from the Leukaemia Foundation together with nurses from different regions of the country.
General nursing continuing education programmes are also available in public health institutions, but the Leukaemia Foundation's course for oncohaematology nurses is unique. It brings together the latest treatment protocols, methods of caring for patients diagnosed with blood cancer, including after bone marrow transplantation, and the expertise of the country's best oncohaematologists.
Training nurses in this rare speciality is a contribution to the lives of thousands of patients in all regions, as nurses from the farthest corners of the country come for training. In medical facilities back home, they will continue to practice what they have learnt on the course and support patients who are battling a diagnosis of blood cancer by applying their unique knowledge of oncohaematology.
