Two-year-old Khalid loves everything to do with cars. His mom Aza says it's the only thing that distracts the toddler from his pain. It so happens that Khalid was born with a congenital genetic disorder - primary immunodeficiency. Because of this rare mutation, the boy's immune system doesn't work properly - it attacks the body's own healthy cells.
To date, Khalid's eyes and skin are the most severely affected. The autoimmune process has provoked the development of inflammation, ulcers of both corneas and alopecia (baldness). Doctors miraculously managed to save the baby's eyesight, and the most important thing now is to stop dangerous complications and “calm down” the aggressive work of the immune system.
The Moscow medical center has selected an effective immunosuppressive therapy for Khalid, which will restrain and suppress the rejection of healthy cells. But the boy's family, alas, cannot buy these expensive drugs - their cost is too high.
