The shelter has acquired cartridges for diagnosing diseases in stray animals!

Helping Hand for Homeless Animals

Foundation Penza

With your support, the shelter was able to purchase special cartridges for the rapid diagnosis of the most dangerous viruses in homeless cats and dogs — parvovirus, feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), and feline leukemia virus (FeLV). These diseases are increasingly common in stray animals coming into the shelter and can be fatal without prompt diagnosis. Therefore, the veterinarians made an important decision to shift the priority areas of diagnosis to identify these infections as early as possible. Thanks to your help, shelter staff can now determine within 15 minutes what issue the furry patient is facing and immediately begin treatment or isolation to protect other animals from potential risk. Each cartridge is a chance for life. It’s a prevented outbreak of infection. Thank you for helping us act quickly, accurately, and compassionately.

Campaign information

Fundraising for the purchase of cartridges for diagnostics of diseases in the shelter for homeless animals!

Some animals coming into the shelter have visible injuries, while others are hidden by lethargy, anemia, weakness, and veterinarians need to find the cause of the condition. Often these symptoms hide serious illnesses that cannot be detected “by eye”. Babesiosis and piroplasmosis, which is transmitted by ticks, destroys red blood cells, causes anemia, intoxication and organ failure. Dirofilariasis - a parasitic disease in which worm-like dirofilariae settle in the heart and pulmonary vessels. It often goes unnoticed but leads to heart failure and death. These diseases are common especially in the warm season, from April to November, often they do not give specific symptoms at the beginning, but it is early diagnosis that gives a chance of survival. That is why the shelter needs PCR cartridges “Babesiosis” and “Dirofilariasis” and an incubator for preparing biological samples for analysis. All the animals in the project photo once suffered from the diseases described above, now they are healthy, have found a home, safety, nourishment and warmth. In time to recognize the cause of ailment means to save a tail patient. You can help support the Foundation's project and become a part of the systematic help to street animals.
