Amira has received her active wheelchair!

Amira is 5 years old. She’s a very sociable and curious girl. She’s writing her first children’s book (and illustrating it herself!), solves problems using an abacus, loves reading, and has friends all across Russia — from the north to the south. Amira has SMA. She can walk, but only for short distances, and she can’t manage stairs without her mom’s help. Outdoors, she gets around on her raft bike — it’s fun and convenient. But school is just around the corner, and a bike won’t be much help there. To feel confident and independent at school, Amira really needs an active wheelchair — lightweight and easy to maneuver. It will help her move around the hallways, get to her classroom on her own, take part in recess and school activities just like other kids. It will help her stay energized and not rely on constant adult assistance. An active wheelchair is not just a way to get around — it’s an important step toward independence.
