Aisha and Muhammad Yusuf were born prematurely, and they spent their first days in intensive care and in the neonatal care unit.
Both kids were diagnosed with retinopathy of prematurity and retinal detachment. These diseases have severely damaged their eyes and eyesight.
Retinopathy is characterized by uncontrolled excessive growth of blood vessels that damage the structures of the eye. For this reason, the retina lags behind the vitreous body, shrinks and dies. Without it, the eye cannot see.
To stop the negative consequences, it is necessary to resort to surgical intervention. Both children have to undergo surgery 1-2 times a year in order to partially preserve their eyesight and the eyes themselves.
Coincidentally, Aisha and Muhammad Yusuf need to get an appointment at about the same time, in early June.
