The operation was successful, and Sasha now has a chance to live without seizures

Foundation St. Petersburg

Sasha Anishchenko underwent the most difficult first stage of the operation: the electrodes were installed. The specialists started the most important process — the electrodes are “recording” the seizures. This is necessary in order to determine the epileptic foci with maximum accuracy for their further surgical removal. Doctors will be able to say for sure whether the epileptic foci have been stopped once the electrodes have completely recorded the cycle and the data has been deciphered. But the main thing is already over. The boy has a real chance to live without seizures. Sasha is the third, long-awaited son in the family. His two older sisters adore their brother, and every New Year, they make the same wish: "May Sasha get better." Maria, Sasha's mother, recalls that her pregnancy was wonderful, and the birth was the easiest. However, at seven months, the baby began to "freeze" for seconds. This marked the beginning of their journey. In July, he turned seven years old. In September, he could have started attending a regular school, but his illness prevented him from doing so. The boy was diagnosed with pharmacoresistant epilepsy, a condition where medications are ineffective. He sometimes experiences up to 20 seizures per day. These seizures have a devastating impact on his childhood, as he struggles to recover and falls behind in his mental and language development. The medications provided only temporary relief, and the constant seizures hindered his progress. The only chance to stop the nightmare is a complex two—stage operation at the National Research Medical Center. Burdenko. First, it was necessary to find the source precisely with the help of stereo-EEG monitoring and implanted electrodes. The first attempt in 2022 did not provide complete data. Queues and postponements stole time. It was impossible to wait any longer. But everything has changed. Thanks to the users of the Tooba platform, the necessary expensive electrodes were paid for and purchased. Sasha got the opportunity to learn, play, talk and just be an ordinary child.

Sasha has a severe form of epilepsy. He needs a special operation to install electrodes

Sasha will be seven years old in July. Sasha has drug-resistant epilepsy. The medications help only for a while - he has seizures every two weeks. Sometimes he can have up to 20 seizures in one day. The child does not have time to recover, as a new series of seizures begins. The boy is significantly behind in mental and intellectual development. He barely speaks, his vocabulary consists of 20 words and a rather limited set of sounds. Little Sasha needs a second operation to install electrodes for recording and monitoring in order to detect foci and subsequent surgery to remove them. It is important that surgical examination can 100% solve the problem with seizures, which means the child will begin a completely different life! He could prepare for school, enjoy the summer, run with his sisters in the yard. But his childhood is a struggle. Alexander is only six years old, he has his whole life ahead of him, and what it will be like at the moment depends on you and me. By helping Sasha now, we give him the opportunity to develop harmoniously and live life to the fullest, isn't that happiness?
