Five-year-old Maryana is a little adult. She knows exactly what she wants: a new phone so she can video chat with her grandmother, toys and sneakers that she will choose herself. Maryana is not childishly serious about the more responsible things - doctor's examinations. Except that sometimes she asks for a jar of ice cream in return.
In August 2017, Maryana started getting sick all the time. "An hour after the blood test, we got a call from the lab and were rushed to Novgorod, because our daughter was terribly anemic," recalls Katerina, Maryana's mother.
From Novgorod, the girl was hospitalized at the Petrov N.N. Oncology Research Center in St. Petersburg, where the girl was diagnosed with fourth degree adrenal neuroblastoma with bone marrow, bone and liver damage.
During the years of treatment Maryana underwent surgery to remove the tumor, several courses of chemotherapy (including high dose), a bone marrow transplant and five courses of immunosupplements. The disease receded. Unfortunately, after a long remission, in April 2021, it made itself felt again.
Now for the disease to be finally defeated, Maryana needs genetic testing to select the most effective targeted therapy. She will also need it to find an unrelated donor for bone marrow transplantation. The cost of the procedure is 71,700 rubles. It is not covered by the MHI, so Maryana cannot get it for free.
The girl has big plans for the future: to return to her favorite classes at music school and to go to the sea. We can make her to recover and fulfill all her dreams.
