Sofia successfully completed the rehabilitation course

Sonya was once a cheerful and active child: she learned to sit at 6 months, walk at one year, and by the age of one and a half she was already saying her first words. But at the age of two, everything changed: the girl stopped talking, playing with toys, and eating on her own. After examination and treatment in 2021, as well as rehabilitation in Tchaikovsky, the diagnosis remained unclear. Only in 2022, thanks to a genetic study that the Bereginya Foundation helped pay for, it became known that Sonya has Rett syndrome - a genetic psychoneurological disease, one of the forms of mental retardation. The cause of the disease is a mutation of the MECP2 gene, which is responsible for the proper development of nervous tissue. Sonya goes to a correctional school, where she is treated by a speech therapist, defectologist, and psychologist. But the girl has no speech, no fine motor skills, and cannot take care of herself: she does not eat or dress herself. To consolidate existing skills and prevent developmental setbacks, Sonya needs comprehensive rehabilitation. This year, medical rehabilitation is planned in St. Petersburg at the RC "Doctrine".
