Rita is 16 years old. She has deformed feet and has been in a wheelchair for most of her life. However, Rita has had two important operations on her feet that will allow her to get back on her feet.
The operations were very complex, using implants, bolts, pins and plates. The volume of operations was enormous, and the surgeon compared the traumatic effect of constructing the feet to being hit by a train. The doctors did an amazing job!
Rita spent many months in a cast and finally the girl's beautiful new feet can be developed in rehabilitation.
This is the first time Rita has stood on her full foot, keeping her balance. Rita is very excited about this change and dreams of going to rehab to learn to walk without support.
Rita is entering Grade 9 this year, she attends school full time, still in a wheelchair. The whole school loves this special bright girl, they even made a very touching film about her for local television. М
