Arina is 6 years old and lives in Moscow. Since birth, she has had cerebral palsy, and every new skill comes through enormous effort and constant therapy.
Despite her physical limitations, Arina’s intellect is fully preserved. She is a curious, active, and cheerful girl who loves to laugh and learn. Arina attends kindergarten, adores the theater — especially funny children’s plays — and enjoys role-playing games like “store” and “doctor.” But most of all, she loves spending time with her older brother. Teachers note her quick thinking and “grown-up” diligence. She is now learning to use an eye-tracker — a device that allows her to control a computer with her gaze — and is preparing for school.
Thanks to regular rehabilitation courses, Arina has learned to hold her head up, sit with support, hold a spoon firmly, and move a little using a walker. These are huge victories for her — small steps toward independence! Her muscles have become stronger, new sounds and words have appeared, and her inner speech has developed.
Arina’s mother dreams that one day her daughter will be able to sit up on her own — it will give her freedom to play and do things independently. The next rehabilitation course is aimed at strengthening her arm, back, neck, and core muscles to improve movement control.
