Taisia will receive a bone marrow transplant!

Taisia was a happy child. After school, she trained as a secretary typist, mastered shorthand, and foreign typing. Immediately after her studies in 1989 she married and a year later gave birth to her son Oleg. When he was 5 years old Taisia and her husband separated. She moved in with her mother and started to look for a job closer to home since her son had serious eye problems: he needed treatment and extra attention. Taisia worked both in a store and a dry-cleaner, which she recalls as difficult times. But there were even more difficult times ahead. In May 2012 she went to the doctor with lower back pain and bruises of unknown origin. A blood test showed a low platelet count. Step by step, examination after examination allowed to confirm the diagnosis - immune thrombocytopenia. Taisia could not believe that this happened to her, because she had never been seriously ill. Now her life turned into a continuous treatment. But she had no choice: she had to get used to IVs and pills, and to constant examinations. Five years after treatment started, Taisia's condition began to deteriorate. She was then diagnosed with idiopathic aplastic anemia. The therapy brought no results. In February 2021 after another thorough check-up Taisia was diagnosed with a dangerous mutation in one of her genes. Doctors made a decision - bone marrow transplantation was necessary. Immediately after that Taisia's son Oleg gave blood for HLA typing. But he was found to have a similar gene mutation as his mother. No donor was found in the Russian Registry. Now there is hope for an International Donor Base. The transplantation is free for the patient, but she has to pay for the donor's examinations, donor activation and graft procurement. This is a considerable amount of money, 1.5 million rubles, which Taisia does not have. The Leukemia Foundation is collecting 200,000 rubles, which is a part of the whole amount. We hope that with our joint support Taisia will cope with the disease and will finally get back to full life!
