Inclusive Learning Environment for a Blind Child at a School in Petropavlovsk

Charity Fund DARA

Foundation Kazakhstan

Thanks to your support, School No. 40 in Petropavlovsk has been able to create the necessary conditions for a blind student to learn in an inclusive environment. As part of the “Opening the World” project, the school received specialized learning materials and equipment for reading, writing, counting, tactile drawing, and spatial orientation. These include Braille letter cubes, a Braille ruler and protractor, notebooks and paper for Braille writing, Braille writing tools, a tactile drawing board, and other educational materials. Through donations raised via the Tooba platform, 10 teachers from the school completed online training on working with blind children and supporting students with visual impairments. In addition, Dara Foundation provided extra funding for several teachers to attend in-person training in Astana. During the training, the teachers gained practical skills, received guidance from specialists, and learned from existing experience in supporting blind children within a school environment. The project helped the school take an important step toward providing accessible, high-quality education. Samir can now access learning materials in a format that is more suitable for him, develop Braille reading and writing skills, improve his orientation and independence, and take a more active part in the life of his class and school.

Building an inclusive classroom for a visually impaired boy in Petropavlovsk

A visually impaired boy named Samir Zh. studies at School No. 40 in Petropavlovsk. This year, he started third grade. To help Samir learn alongside other children and take part in school life, the school reached out to us for support in creating a comfortable environment for a child with special educational needs. With the funds raised thanks to your support, we’ll purchase special materials for reading, writing, math, and spatial orientation, train teachers in Braille and methods for working with visually impaired students, and organize exchange visits to share experience. As a result, the school will become a model of effective inclusion.
