Matvey was born with multiple congenital conditions: absence of one kidney, congenital cataracts, and consequences of maternal alcoholism—damage to the nervous system. Despite these challenges, his intellect remained intact. He was immediately placed in a children's home and later in an orphanage.
In his foster family, they immediately began addressing the boy's health and development, but at the age of 8, he was diagnosed with epilepsy. He did well in school, but during adolescence, significant changes occurred: refusal to study, running away from home, apathy, and withdrawal. The psychologist working with the boy recommended consulting a psychiatrist, who diagnosed bipolar affective disorder. Properly prescribed medication allowed him to finish school and enroll in the technical college of his choice.
Matvey needs regular psychiatric consultations to adjust his treatment and live a fulfilling life.
This story highlights the importance of timely professional help. Many children, especially those from foster families, face serious psychological and emotional challenges that require professional intervention.
Let's help make psychiatric care accessible for children with orphan experiences. Proper treatment will help them regain their health and build a future.
