Expecting a baby is a trembling moment in the life of a family. However, if the future baby receives an intrauterine diagnosis of spina bifida, the family's life is filled with anxiety and concern for the health of the mother and baby.
In Moscow perinatal centers it is possible to perform a unique intrauterine surgery, which will allow the child to avoid serious consequences of the malformation and to live a full life. The mother and the newborn need consultations by competent specialists who have the experience with patients with the diagnosis of spina bifida. This is a great burden on the family. The Fund "Spina bifida" helps families during the period of expectation of the child, and also during the first months of life of the newborn.
The main task of the project is to provide mothers with accommodation while waiting for the birth of the baby. The specific nature of the defect is such that the newborn can get the necessary help only in Moscow perinatal centers and hospitals. Thus, the mother needs to come to the capital from the region in advance for surgery. After intrauterine surgery at 22-24 weeks of pregnancy, the expectant mother must continue to live in Moscow near the perinatal center and under medical supervision until birth, which is about 3-4 months. And the family often cannot afford to pay for it. Our task is to organize comfortable housing for expectant mothers, which will be located near the perinatal centers and enable the mother and baby to get all the necessary care in a timely manner.
