Sonya lives in the village of Kuragino, which is 500 km from Krasnoyarsk. Sonya has spina bifida, which means that her vertebrae did not close in utero, and her spinal cord formed a hernia. Sonya was operated on immediately after birth. And then she had several more operations on her hips. The last surgery took Sonya and her mother to the hospital for 5 months!
Now she is at home, recovering, keeping her bed rest. Prior to the surgery she was crawling, could stand and walk, could ride a bicycle. Sophie is active, sociable and curious girl. Now she is learning to read. Very much likes to collect puzzles. She is able to play checkers. But most of all she likes to play with other children. She is very friendly and sociable.
The recovery process after surgery will not be quick, but mom and Sonya are optimistic. For an effective recovery, Sonya needs a verticalizer, a tool for daily rehabilitation. In it she will be able to stand safely. The verticalizer will help the inquisitive little girl to spend less time in hospitals, and more time to devote to education and her favorite hobbies.
The opportunity to stand in a special support will improve the physical condition of the girl, the condition of her respiratory and excretory systems, will serve as a prevention of osteoporosis, will avoid contractures of joints and as a consequence, surgical intervention. It is impossible to get a standing machine from the state, because it is not included in the individual rehabilitation program.
