Khanum is twelve years old. Already at the age of three months, the girl was diagnosed with severe congenital hypothyroidism, which meant the absence of a thyroid gland. As a result, the girl started taking the vital drug L-thyroxine literally from the age of three months, the need for which will persist throughout her life. The first months were especially difficult: the baby practically did not grow, having gained only 600 grams of weight in three months, Feeding was carried out by drip using a pipette, since regular food was impossible.
Speech appeared only by the age of six, and later delays in physical and intellectual development began to manifest themselves. The girl lags behind physically and mentally from her peers, and needs special educational conditions.
Currently, Khanum studies at home, annually takes the necessary rehabilitation courses at the Children's Republican Clinical Hospital in Makhachkala and, if financially available, additionally studies in private medical institutions. The services of a psychiatrist, speech therapist, neurohymnastics and other types of therapy are constantly required, without which the girl's condition will deteriorate dramatically. Nevertheless, the family is unable to bear the costs of such expensive procedures due to the difficult financial situation.
