Aysha is turning 12. Until she was one year old, she grew and developed like her peers, but later her family noticed alarming changes: Aysha stopped responding to her name, avoided eye contact, tried to withdraw from people, and developed monotonous, repetitive movements. Specialists diagnosed her with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and later epilepsy. Thanks to the activities the girl recently began to develop long-awaited skills: she began making eye contact, began pointing, and began repeating some words. These steps are very fragile, and without systematic sessions with specialists, developmental setbacks are inevitable. For further progress, Aysha requires a comprehensive approach: regular remedial classes, work with specialists, support programs, and ongoing rehabilitation. All of this requires significant financial resources, which are extremely difficult for grandparents to manage on their own.
