Maryam is two years old, a kind and cheerful little girl. She loves to draw, especially animals and brightly colored pictures.
Diagnosed with strabismus at birth, she underwent regular checkups. During one examination, doctors suspected a tumor in Maryam's right eye. A later examination confirmed the cancer diagnosis. Doctors in Tajikistan advised Maryam's family to travel to Russia, as the necessary treatment was unavailable where the girl lived. Maryam's father traveled with her for treatment, as her mother remained at home with their youngest child.
Doctors from the Blokhin National Medical Research Center administered two courses of selective intra-arterial chemotherapy (SIACT). This allowed them to precisely target the tumor and stop the spread of the disease. The girl currently requires further examination in the oncology department to determine the extent of the disease and prescribe further treatment.
