Safiya is only seven months old, and she's spent almost her entire life on the operating table and in intensive care. Only recently was she home with her family for the first time. She looks around with interest, reaches for toys, smiles at her loved ones, and is gradually becoming familiar with the world beyond the hospital ward.
Safiya has a severe congenital kidney disease called Finnish nephrotic syndrome. This disease causes the kidneys to disrupt the entire body, causing a critical loss of protein and a buildup of cholesterol in the blood. The only solution is a kidney removal followed by a transplant.
One of Safiya's kidneys has already been removed.
After the surgery, the little girl's condition improved, but the disease continues to negatively impact her body. Over the past month, doctors have tried to control it with medication, but they were unsuccessful.
Safiya now needs to urgently remove her other kidney to stop the severe consequences of the disease, which medication alone is no longer able to control.
The family has many children and cannot afford the necessary medical care themselves.
Let's support Safiya and help her pay for the necessary medical care!
