Vanya is 4 years old, he loves toy cars and is always smiling. He has also already gotten used to long visits to doctors, cold examination rooms, hospital wards, and the incomprehensible words of adults. The little boy has a severe congenital diagnosis — a spinal cord lesion that affects his entire body.
Vanya is one of six children whom his mother is raising alone. For his treatment, the family moved to Moskva, and at the end of August, there will be another hospitalization. But his mother cannot leave the other children, so the Doroga zhizni foundation has come to the family's aid once again: while Vanya is undergoing surgery and recovery, he will be accompanied by a professional nanny.
"It is very hard for me that I cannot be by my son's side, but I know he is in safe hands," says his mother. "The nanny is always in touch, sending photos and videos. She is a true professional, she knows how to feed him, change his clothes, put him to bed — she can do everything. And she doesn't get flustered in moments when I surely would: for example, giving him water when the anesthesia is wearing off. I am very grateful that I can stop worrying and being anxious."
For a child, the hospital is a frightening and unfamiliar world. They need not only care and supervision, but also warmth, affection, and protection. A child in the hospital needs a reliable adult nearby. That is exactly what nannies become for our wards — children who, like Vanya, are left alone during treatment.
Thank you for your compassion! You helped pay for a nanny for one of our wards in the hospital!
