Maryam is only seven years old, and she requires ongoing rehabilitation. This rehabilitation is necessary because she has a rare genetic disorder—a deletion on chromosome 13, resulting in a condition known as monosomy. This means she is missing a key part of one of her chromosomes, located between 14 and 31, which affects her physical development, height, weight, and speech. Because of this diagnosis, Maryam looks like a four-year-old. She also suffers from a delay in psychoverbal development.To support Maryam's health, she requires therapy, including massage, physical therapy, speech therapy, a special education teacher, and swimming. These programs help her develop physically and emotionally, improving her coordination, speech, and communication skills. However, the cost of numerous rehabilitation programs is high and places an unbearable burden on the family.
