Due to facial nerve paralysis, Yulia has an asymmetrical face, one eye closes poorly, and her smile slides to the side. This can only be corrected through surgery. And it’s not easy. It will take two stages. The first stage is now behind her. Because you helped.

“After the six‑hour operation, only thin, neat sutures remained — in the place where a nerve taken from Yulia’s leg was transplanted. The healing period is over, and nothing is bothering my daughter,” says her mother, Nastya.

Yulia has facial paralysis and needs surgery

When Julia smiles, the right side of her mouth goes up, while the left remains lifeless. The reason for this is congenital paralysis of the facial nerve. This can be corrected with a two-stage surgical reconstruction.

Now one corner of 8-year–old Julia's mouth is always lowered, the eyelid does not fully close, and when the girl is experiencing strong emotions, this distortion is very clearly visible. Yulia looks at herself in the mirror and gets upset.

A two-step operation can correct the imperfection. First, surgeons will transplant the nerve from the healthy half of the face to the paralyzed one, so that it literally sprouts into the cheek. Then the doctors will assess the condition and suggest a second stage of surgery. Now it is necessary to carry out the first micro-operation so that a first-grader girl, an excellent student with a phenomenal memory, who obeys all school Olympiads, has a chance to smile and have a symmetrical face.
