Amelia was born at 28–29 weeks, with a height of 40 cm and weight of only 1400 g. On her 19th day of life the baby had to undergo her first serious heart surgery. After the arterial duct clipping, the girl spent several days in intensive care and then she was transferred to the intensive care unit. Amelia spent almost 2 long months in the hospital and just before she was discharged, the doctors said that the child couldn’t hear anything.
At the age of 1.5, the baby underwent another complex surgery – she received her first cochlear implant so that she could hear sounds with at least one ear. Amelia’s list of diagnoses is not encouraging: cerebral palsy, spastic diplegia, bilateral sensorineural hearing loss of the 4th degree, cochlear implantation on the left and right, lower muscular paraparesis of medium degree and delayed speech development. . Now Amelia is 11 years old, she moves around the house on all fours, and if she is held upright, she can take a few unsteady steps while holding onto a support or someone’s hand.
In 2024 and 2025, Amelia underwent complex on spinal and orthopedic surgeries. The girl is recovering from them through rehabilitation courses, for trips to which, as well as to walks, she needs a wheelchair – it will help her maintain the correct position of her body, arms and legs and prevent her health from worsening. Let’s help Amelia so she could move comfortably and without harm to her body!
