Alisa has been deaf since birth. To enable her to hear and speak, she underwent cochlear implant surgery in both ears. Since then, she has worn speech processors that capture sound and transmit it to the implant.
The speech processors are worn all the time while she is awake. They are battery-powered, and a charge lasts for 7-8 hours (the battery capacity decreases over time). But even with a full battery, she needs two charged batteries per ear per day. That's a total of four per day. The batteries also need to be charged.
Furthermore, each speech processor has connecting cables. These are very sensitive and wear out quickly. On average, one cable lasts for one year. This means Alisa needs two cables annually.
The state provides a speech processor kit once every five years. It lasts for two years. After that, she has to purchase one out-of-pocket. The family doesn't have the means to purchase such expensive equipment. We want to help Alisa and her family by purchasing everything they need.
