A year ago, the baby’s heart suddenly stopped. It was a miracle that she was saved then. But even after a full examination, the cardiologists were unable to determine the cause of the heart attack. That’s why it’s not yet possible to apply the right treatment tactics. What does the girl need: drug therapy or a pacemaker? And will there be new heart rhythm disturbances? Genetic testing can provide answers to these questions in a situation that is difficult to diagnose. It wasn’t possible to get it done under the quota. The tests have been done, and the results will be available soon.” For now, we’re happy every day that our daughter is recovering. Rehabilitation, massages, and other procedures have helped her a lot. She still has some unsteadiness in her gait and difficulty jumping — that is, coordination issues. When two-year-old Sofia's heart stopped, her parents had only a few seconds to save their daughter. They were at the hospital exactly 6 minutes later, and Sofia's heart was turned on again. But no one knows where it stopped. One of the ways to find out is to do a genetic analysis.
Leading experts in dealing with sudden cardiac death in children do not know what is the reason for what happened to Sofia. Last fall, at her grandmother's cottage, the girl fell and stopped breathing. The veterinarian grandfather saw the pupils stop, and in just a few minutes, the family with the non-breathing child in their arms was already in the hospital.
Intensive care brought Sofia back to life. But no one can protect her from a repeat cardiac arrest – until the cause is clarified. Is it possible to treat Sofia with medication? Or do you need a pacemaker? How likely is a new attack? How can a family protect a child? In a difficult diagnostic situation, genetic analysis can answer these questions. Unfortunately, it cannot be done according to the quota.
