Kira is an orphan. She has cerebral palsy, developmental delays, and other related complications. When the foundation's doctors first saw her, the girl was in severe pain due to leg deformities.
We helped Kira come to Moskva for treatment; this year, she underwent an orthopedic surgery, followed by a long period of recovery and rehabilitation.
"When Kira first arrived," her nanny recalls, "I never saw her smile, she didn't make a sound at all. She just lay on her side and sucked her thumb."
Since the nanny met Kira at the airport, they have always been together. The nanny not only cared for the girl—turning her to prevent bedsores, feeding her, monitoring her hygiene—she did everything to give Kira a normal childhood: reading her fairy tales, taking her for walks, playing with her. It was the nanny who noticed how much the girl loved music, how she would start giggling as soon as she heard familiar tunes.
Now Kira has recovered from the surgery and returned to her orphanage. We are confident that her life will improve: after all, there will be no more pain, which the surgery helped to relieve. Moreover, we have informed the orphanage staff about how to properly care for the girl now, and the nanny shared everything she had learned.
Thank you for your compassion! Thanks to you, Kira had a caring and loving adult by her side throughout her treatment, with whom she learned to smile.
