Helping care for Przewalski's horses

The Nature and People Foundation is helping the Orenburg Nature Reserve purchase the necessary equipment to care for Russia's only population of Przewalski's horses. Since 2015, a project to establish a semi-free population of these animals in Russia has been underway. By 2030, the plan is to create a sustainable, purebred population of 120-150 horses, with the goal of eventually reintroducing them into the wild. Extensive infrastructure has been established at the reserve, but some of the equipment has become unusable after extensive use. Therefore, replacement and increased availability are needed. The Foundation will help equip the Reintroduction Center with tractor attachments that will enable loading and unloading operations during haymaking for winter forage, as well as clearing roads and infrastructure of snow, which is especially important for the Center's effective operation in the region's challenging weather conditions. Quick-release forks and a bucket will also help the Center's staff move heavy transport cages and watering tanks for the horses.
