Helping Hand for Homeless Animals

Charitable foundationPenza

At the ‘Pitomets’ shelter, where hundreds of cats and dogs live under one roof, every new arrival first undergoes a blood test. The reason is simple: some infections — such as feline immunodeficiency virus, leukemia, and others — are not detectable during a physical exam but can easily spread from one animal to another. Until the test results are in, the most important decisions cannot be made: where to house the new resident, whether to let it mingle with the others, and whether it needs medical attention right from day one.

These rapid tests are used constantly. Every animal brought in undergoes testing: those picked up on the street, those surrendered by owners, and those brought in after accidents. Without a supply of tests, it’s unsafe to run a shelter housing hundreds of animals — a single hidden illness can undo weeks of the veterinarians’ work.

Thanks to your donations, the center has purchased a batch of rapid tests. Now the veterinarians once again have the means to screen new patients: each one is tested immediately upon arrival, hidden infections are detected in time, and these animals are prevented from entering the general wards. Thank you for supporting this screening process, which is the first step in any safe treatment.

Help us pay for disease screening tests for homeless animals

A drop of blood, fifteen minutes — and the vet knows whether the furry patient has viral immunodeficiency, leukemia, or another infection that spreads among animals. Without this result, we can’t make the most important decisions: which kennel to place the new resident in, whether it’s safe to put them with the already rehabilitated animals, and whether supportive care is needed from day one.

Rapid tests are performed immediately upon arrival. A single untested animal in the general ward poses a risk of infecting dozens of cats and dogs that veterinarians have already spent weeks treating. That’s why every animal is tested: those brought in from the street, those surrendered by residents, and those who arrived at the center after a traffic accident. Without these tests, it’s simply impossible to safely run a shelter for hundreds of dogs and cats.

Please support the fundraiser for a batch of tests for the ‘Pitomets’ center. These are basic tests without which no treatment can begin.
