On August 31, 2024, the life of 13-year-old Lev Mitrofanov was divided into 'before' and 'after.' Together with his father and grandfather, he was returning from a walk in the forest when their car was involved in an accident. His father died at the wheel, and his grandfather later succumbed to his injuries. Lyova himself was literally pulled out of the mangled car by paramedics—the doctors described his condition as 'incompatible with life.'

The teenager was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, brain contusion, multiple spinal fractures, and ruptured internal organs. On September 2, he was transferred to the Orenburg Children's Clinical Hospital, where he fell into a grade 2–3 coma. Only on September 16, after a complex surgery to install a metal structure in his spine, did his condition begin to stabilize.

Lyova does not remember that day. When he regained consciousness, he could not even lift his head—a recent athlete, runner, and football player, he suddenly found himself bedridden. He could not feel his legs, his left arm was in a cast, and every breath was painful.

At the 'Three Sisters' rehabilitation center, he was taught anew how to sit, transfer himself, and hold a spoon. Then followed three courses of treatment under the compulsory medical insurance at a sanatorium—but these were only enough to maintain his condition. 'But we need to move forward while age is still on our side,' says his mother, Natalya.

By February 2026, Lyova was already crawling on all fours, sitting up by himself, and standing with knee support. But the course ended, and the boy was once again left at home on the second floor without an elevator. He hardly goes outside, studies remotely at IT-shkola, draws, and waits for his return to sports.

Psychologists note: Lev does not have depression, only incredible inner strength. He dreams of becoming an engineer or IT specialist—and now he has a real chance to stand on his feet again.
