Good grades, the support of her grandmother, and plans for the biology department are Oksana's reality. It was just a matter of a small thing: to get a low start and have a good run. But an unexpected illness decided otherwise, rewrote history.
At a routine checkup, the pediatrician noted a low hemoglobin level. On the doctor's recommendation, the grandmother organized a diet: beef, pomegranate, liver. Unfortunately, the therapeutic diet did not help. Oksana grew weaker every day. Her leg began to hurt, her platelet count dropped. The surgeon sent her to a hematologist. The final diagnosis was acute myeloblastic leukemia.
Oksana did not know what a birthday was until she was seven years old. She celebrated her first birthday when she started living with her grandmother. "I was so happy that day. They gave me a big bicycle, which I dreamed of for a long time. Sometimes I close my eyes and go back to that day - drawing strength to move on," the girl recalls.
She has big plans for the future. "I set myself a goal and want to achieve it: to go to college and move to Krasnoyarsk. I am proud of my successes in my studies. But I can't find friends in my hometown for a long time. Lesosibirsk is small, there are more opportunities in Krasnoyarsk," Oksana says.
She is currently undergoing treatment in St. Petersburg at the Gorbachev Research Institute. Four courses of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplantation operation are behind her.
