Every child needs a close adult—someone who will explain everything, hug them, and be there when they're scared. This is especially important when a child ends up in the hospital, where the familiar world is replaced by white coats, unfamiliar sounds, and frightening procedures.
We help children who find themselves alone in the hospital. Most of our clients are orphans, but some have parents: sometimes, mom and dad can't be with their child. We pay professional nannies for all of these children.
"The nannies at our foundation are heroic women," says the coordinator of the "Children in Hospital" program. "They work 24/7 and remain calm in any situation. They are always affectionate, ready to help, hold them, or read them a story."
Recently, a 9-year-old girl with spina bifida needed our nanny's help. She is one of three adopted children, and her mother couldn't leave the others to be hospitalized with her. We provided a nanny who accompanied the girl to her treatments, provided support, and they also drew, read, and laughed together. Now the girl has been examined and returned home.
Help us pay for the nannies! Let no child be left alone with illness!
