For a child, being alone in the hospital is an enormous source of stress. Without a loved one nearby, they feel scared and lonely. Young children are unable to care for themselves without adult help and cannot comfort themselves on their own.
That is why our foundation provides nannies for children who end up in the hospital alone—most often these are orphans, but sometimes parents are simply unable to accompany their child.
Our nannies become a temporary but reliable support for children undergoing treatment. They are there 24/7: holding hands when the child is scared, rocking them or telling stories when they can't fall asleep, and helping them calm down when a medical procedure is needed.
Recently, we helped an 11-year-old boy with diabetes. He needed urgent tests and an adjustment to his treatment due to constant blood sugar fluctuations, but his mother, due to her own health, could not stay with him in the hospital. We arranged his hospitalization and assigned him a nanny. She stayed with him around the clock: monitoring his diet, keeping track of his condition, and calling his mother every two hours to discuss his readings and how he was feeling.
Support our fundraiser to pay for nannies! Let every young patient have an adult by their side so they don't have to be afraid.
