Rita had an examination of the brain and, based on its results, underwent surgery

Rita could not be examined for a long time for various reasons, and it was only in April that the EEG monitoring finally took place. Rita spent 24 hours in a "cap" of electrodes, and while she slept, ate, and played, the doctors in the monitors "caught the bug" - the area of the brain that was the source of epilepsy. Finding it was not difficult, but the doctors needed to clearly define its boundaries so that they could remove it afterwards without harming healthy cells. After the examination, Rita was immediately scheduled for surgery, which took place last week. According to doctors it was a success, vital areas of brain were not damaged and the damaged cells were removed completely. We visited Rita in the hospital. Today they take her stitches out and discharge her. Rita is very tired, and often she is in a bad mood - her mother has not seen her smile for weeks. But after the surgery Rita is sleeping - she had problems with sleep before, and she does not have seizures anymore. Rita will come to her senses soon - she just needs time. For a further year the girl will take the medications according to the old regimen, and only then, after making sure that there is no epilepsy, the doctors will begin to decrease the dosages, gradually taking the child off the drug therapy. The doctors' prognosis is good! Thank you for coming to help!

Rita needs to be examined before surgery

Since the age of one and a half, not a day has gone by without seizures, the result being a developmental delay that cannot be overcome without treating the child for the epilepsy that causes them. She simply erases everything she has learned and mastered with each new seizure. It happens that it is impossible to cure epilepsy. But Rita, as it turns out, has a chance. The foci of epileptic activity in her brain are located so that they can be removed. Doctors warned that several operations were needed, and the first one was performed this spring. After the surgery, Rita had significantly fewer attacks and her epilepsy symptoms became milder. Her mother bought her daughter an electronic piano at a thrift store, and Rita learned to play "The Dog's Waltz. Previously, the family had never dreamed of such achievements. Now it's time for the second operation. It is free for the children, but before it, the child has to undergo daily EEG-monitoring, which costs 30,000 rubles. That's why it has to be postponed. Rita's mom doesn't have that kind of money. We can help Rita! Maybe in six months she will be able to play "Moonlight Sonata" or learn to speak, read, and count - who knows what her brain is capable of when it is not tormented by cramps. But one thing is certain - there will be much less pain and despair in Rita's life, and more opportunities and joy!
