A pet’s wound doesn’t heal in a single treatment. After an accident, a fight, or a burn, a dog or cat can be treated, sutured, and given pain relief, but then begins a long process that can take weeks. It is during this time that it is determined whether the wound will heal cleanly or whether complications will arise.
This is where wound-healing gels and bandages come in. The gel prevents the wound from drying out, protects against infection, and helps the tissues regenerate. The bandage keeps the wound clean and prevents the animal from disturbing the fresh sutures. They need to be changed frequently — and for severely injured patients, even several times a day. A single patient requires a substantial supply for the entire course of treatment, and there are dozens of such patients at the 'Pitomets' center at any given time: those with lacerations, post-surgical stitches, and skin damage from burns and frostbite.
