Rustam is five years old; he was born prematurely and weighed only 400 grams. His parents did not dare to take him home, so the boy was raised in an orphanage. Until the age of four, he could not walk, only crawled, and spoke very little.
Specialists from the foundation brought the boy to Moskva for treatment: he underwent orthopedic surgery on his feet, after which he spent a month in a cast. The operation is only part of the journey: ahead of Rustam are rehabilitation courses and independent exercises.
"Rustam is a restless one," his nanny says. "He loves it when it's noisy and fun, when balloons pop and toys are scattered everywhere. But at the same time, he takes his physical therapy sessions seriously—it's a miracle for such a little boy."
The foundation's nanny does more than just look after Rustam and perform hygiene procedures; she is there when he is in pain or scared, calms him, talks to him, and supports him. Rustam loves to sit with his nanny, resting his head on her shoulder. She sings him lullabies before bed and praises him for every small achievement.
