Masha is 15 years old and has type II spinal muscular atrophy. She is receiving pathogenetic therapy, which has halted the progression of SMA.
However, the effects of the condition remain. Home exercises, swimming, physiotherapy and regular rehabilitation courses are essential to maintain her mobility.
At present, Masha can sit unaided, but she cannot roll over or stand on her feet. Her mum works with her at home every day, and several times a year she needs a course of rehabilitation.
«The centre offers a completely different level of care: daily physiotherapy, sessions with a speech therapist and other specialists. It’s comprehensive support that we simply cannot get here in our region», explains her mum.
Masha dreams of helping people, is thinking about her future career and believes that one day she will definitely visit Japan.
