Help purchase covered litter boxes for cats at the shelter

The foundation's team rarely goes a weekend without field trips. That time, a neighboring grandmother, one of those who feeds all the local cats, called: stray kittens were sick, and the mother cat was expecting another litter, and she needed help.

The kittens weren’t feral, but they were cautious: they’d come right into the elderly woman’s arms but approached us warily. After half an hour of patience, a gothic pair — Gomez and Morticia — was already sitting in the carrier. On the way, it became clear that the little ones had gastrointestinal issues. At the shelter, they were washed, examined, and diagnosed; they found ringworm and a respiratory infection, which are common among stray kittens. Next came shampoos, treatments, antiviral therapy, and antibiotics.

Now Gomez has grown up, recovered, and is waiting for his owner at the shelter. The foundation has dozens of cats like Gomez. And each one needs its own enclosed litter box. It contains odors, prevents litter from scattering across the floor, and gives skittish and recovering cats the privacy they so desperately need.

For a shelter where dozens of animals live under one roof, this is also a matter of hygiene: the less dirt is spread around the facility, the safer it is for everyone.
