Miron was born at 29 weeks of pregnancy and spent his first two months in the hospital, where doctors cared for the 'little hurry.' However, after he was discharged, in addition to his existing diagnoses—ischemia and delayed motor development—a cranial deformity was added.
At home, the parents immediately noticed that the head of their fourth child was slanted. This can happen from lying on one side for too long. In the hospital, a neck brace was recommended, but the device could not reliably support the head, and Miron continued to lie on his left side.
The soft bones of the skull shifted so much that facial asymmetry appeared, and doctors diagnosed positional plagiocephaly. This diagnosis can lead to problems with the bite, displacement of the eye socket and ear, muscle imbalance, and, as a result, psychological issues.
While the skull bones remain pliable, all of this can be corrected with a gentle method: constant wearing of a cranial orthosis (orthopedic helmet) made according to an exact 3D model of Miron's head.
A structure made of lightweight modern materials will guide the skull bones to grow in the right direction, allow Miron to sleep in a different position, and in a few months will make the baby's head even.
