Right now, a large-scale rescue operation is unfolding in Kaluga: volunteers and foundations are urgently evacuating hundreds of dogs from the territory of an abandoned industrial zone, where, under the sign of the shelter 'Ostrov nadezhdy,' the animals had been kept for a long time in terrible conditions without proper nutrition, care, or veterinary assistance.
Shelters have joined forces and are distributing the affected animals. Many organizations, including our foundation, are taking in dogs. We want to help every rescued four-legged friend and do everything possible to ensure their suffering is left in the past.
But after a long life in dampness, cold, and cramped conditions, the animals' health has been seriously undermined:
- bacterial infections of the skin, ears, and respiratory tract;
- deep inflamed wounds, abrasions, and scratches;
- severe parasitic infestations leading to anemia and severe intoxication of the body.
Each rescued dog requires immediate medical therapy:
- Emergency treatment for fleas, ticks, and helminths: removing the parasitic burden and protecting against dangerous transmissible diseases.
- A course of systemic antibiotics: suppressing secondary bacterial infections and inflammatory processes.
- Local treatment and care for injuries: regular wound sanitation, application of healing ointments, solutions, and sprays to relieve itching and restore the skin.
Through our combined efforts, we will be able to promptly purchase antibiotics, antiparasitic drugs, antiseptics, and dressing materials—both for treating dogs in our shelter and for providing to partner organizations that are rescuing tails from Kaluga together with us.
