One-year-old Timofey has only 80 centimeters of intestine, instead of the usual two meters. Because of this "short bowel syndrome," his body cannot absorb the fats, proteins, carbohydrates, and vitamins he needs to live and grow. He needs our help to get the nutrition he requires!
Timofey spends 20 hours a day connected to an IV drip that provides parenteral nutrition. Thanks to this specialized intravenous feeding, he is growing and developing just like his peers.
If everything goes according to plan, these 20-hour IV sessions won’t be necessary forever. The doctors have a strategy: as Timofey gains weight through parenteral nutrition, his intestine will also continue to grow and gradually recover. Eventually, he will be able to consume more regular food, and one day, Timofey will simply recover—leaving behind the world of IV ports and sterile medical procedures. But until then, he must be fed every day. While he is technically entitled to receive this nutrition and the necessary IV supplies from the state free of charge, the local procurement process can often be slow, leading to significant delays. The little boy cannot manage without our help!
